Jammu, September 11: Cluster University of Jammu, in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission, Jammu, organized a special programme at Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar, to commemorate the historic address of Swami Vivekananda at the Parliament ofReligions, Chicago, on 11th September 1893.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and felicitation of guests. Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Ms. Ankur Mahajan (JKAS), Registrar, was the Guest of Honour.
Swami Yajnadharananda ji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Jammu, presided over the function. Prof. Daljit Singh Manhas, Dean Students’ Welfare, welcomed the gathering, followed by an invocation of spiritual fervour through the Swadesh Mantra by Swami Vijayesanananda ji. Students from various institutions presented eloquent speeches inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, echoing his timeless call for harmony and inclusiveness. A landmark feature of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cluster University of Jammu and Ramakrishna Mission, symbolizing a joint commitment to promote value-based education and youth empowerment.
In his address, Prof. K.S. Chandrasekar emphasized the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s message of universal brotherhood in guiding today’s youth towards character, leadership, and service. Swami Yajnadharananda ji Maharaj, in his Presidential Address, reflected on Swamiji’s vision of nation-building through education and moral awakening. He further emphasized that Swami Vivekananda’s call for universal brotherhood and his faith in the power of youth remain as relevant today as they were in 1893.
The event witnessed the presence of senior university officials, faculty, cultural council members, students, and dignitaries including principals of GGM Science College and GCW Gandhinagar, along with representatives of various departments. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Revika Arora, while Swami Vijayesanananda ji delivered the vote of thanks. Concluding with the National Anthem, the programme not only paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s immortal message but also reinforced the resolve of the academic community to imbibe his teachings for fostering peace, inclusiveness, and holistic student development.
