New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has once again challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
On Friday, Rahul asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to convince PM Modi to take part in the debate. In a post on X, he said, “Don’t confuse Modi ji. Just convince him to have an open debate with me. Any platform, any time. Don’t be afraid.”
Rahul Gandhi and Amit Shah Exchange Remarks
The latest statement came after Amit Shah made comments about Rahul Gandhi’s demand for a debate on SIR.
Rahul shared a video of Shah in which he appeared to make different statements about discussing SIR in Parliament. In one clip, Shah said there could be no debate on SIR in Parliament, while in another, he invited Rahul to discuss the issue in the House.
The issue has led to a fresh political fight between the BJP and Congress.
What Did Amit Shah Say?
On Thursday, Amit Shah criticised Rahul Gandhi during a BJP rally in Karnal, Haryana.
Shah accused Rahul of disrupting Parliament and not taking part in important discussions. He also said that Parliament is the main place where political issues should be discussed.
Shah further said that the government was ready to call a special session of Parliament to discuss SIR.
Rahul Gandhi’s Demand
Rahul Gandhi first challenged PM Modi and Amit Shah to an open debate earlier this week.
He said the discussion could take place at any location and in front of the media and young people. He also suggested that the Prime Minister could choose someone, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, to moderate the debate.
The BJP and Congress continue to disagree over the SIR process and Rahul Gandhi’s demand for a public discussion.
