Patna: Young cricket star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named captain of the Bihar team for the first two matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2026-27. The 15-year-old will lead Bihar against Saurashtra on November 14 and Railways on November 16 in Indore.
Sooryavanshi has received this opportunity because regular captain Sakibul Gani is injured.
Bihar’s assistant coach Ashok Kumar said that Sooryavanshi is ready to take responsibility. He also said the team wants to prepare the young player for future leadership roles.
Second Leadership Role This Year
This is not the first time Sooryavanshi has received a leadership role. Earlier this year, he was named vice-captain of the East Zone team in the Duleep Trophy. The team won the tournament under captain Ishan Kishan.
Recently, Sooryavanshi also played for India in the T20I series against New Zealand. He scored 4 runs in one match and 45 runs in another.
What Lies Ahead for Sooryavanshi?
The young batter has also been selected for the India A team for the Rising Stars Asia Cup.
India A will begin its campaign against Nepal on November 20. The team will then face Pakistan A on November 22 and the UAE on November 24.
Bihar will hope that Sooryavanshi’s leadership and batting help the team start the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with strong performances.
