During his career, he took six five-wicket hauls. His best bowling performance was 6 wickets for 56 runs against Australia in Perth in 2018.
He was also known for taking important wickets in big matches and helping India win several important games.
Will Shami Continue Playing Cricket?
Shami’s retirement is only from Test cricket. He remains available for selection in limited-overs cricket, including ODIs and T20Is.
He has also continued playing domestic cricket for Bengal. Recently, he took 14 wickets in three Ranji Trophy matches.
Shami has also been named in Bengal’s squad for the upcoming 2026-27 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
His retirement from the longest format marks the end of an important chapter in Indian cricket, but fans may still see him wearing India’s jersey in white-ball cricket.
