Kolkata: Combat sports promoter Safikul Molla (Saif) has expressed his intention to meet MLA Nawsad Siddiqui to discuss the future of combat sports, particularly Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), and their role in youth development across West Bengal.
Speaking with Dogra Times, Saif said he aims to present a proposal focused on strengthening the state’s combat sports ecosystem by creating better opportunities for young athletes, promoting fitness, and encouraging discipline through organized sporting initiatives.
Saif, who is known for organizing one of Kolkata’s largest open-air MMA events, Kurukshetra – The Ultimate Fight Night V1, said his vision extends beyond hosting competitions. According to him, West Bengal has significant talent in combat sports, but athletes require structured support, quality training, and greater institutional encouragement to compete at national and international levels.
“West Bengal has massive talent in combat sports. What the youth need is a platform, proper guidance, and government support. We want to build opportunities for fighters coming from every background,” Saif told Dogra Times.
According to Saif, the proposed meeting would focus on exploring ways in which boxing and MMA can contribute to youth empowerment, fitness awareness, and career opportunities while encouraging broader participation in organized sports across the state.
If the meeting takes place, discussions are expected to include the possibility of organizing major combat sports events in Kolkata, promoting grassroots tournaments, training camps, and initiatives aimed at identifying and nurturing emerging talent in West Bengal.
Saif believes that combat sports can play a meaningful role in steering young people towards discipline, confidence, and professional sporting careers. He added that bringing together athletes, coaches, promoters, and supporters under a common vision could help strengthen the state’s sporting ecosystem.
