In the industrial landscape of Durgapur, where machines define livelihoods and skills shape careers, a quiet revolution in technical education has been unfolding for years. At the heart of this transformation stands Snehanshu Manna, Instructor of Turner Trade (Mechanical) at Government ITI Durgapur.
For over 16 years, Sri Manna has dedicated his life to empowering rural youth through skill-based education. Known for his discipline, dedication, and innovative teaching methods, he has developed a unique system popularly called the “MANNA MODEL.” This model focuses on “from design to production by a Turner trainee performed by himself with the help of 3D CAD and CNC turning process.” Under this system, students learn to design components digitally, prepare machine programs, and manufacture finished products independently on CNC machines.
This complete learning cycle makes trainees confident, technically strong, and industry-ready. Instead of limiting students to theory, Sri Manna emphasizes hands-on training, real-life industrial exposure, and professional ethics. His classrooms and workshops reflect his belief that true education must build both skill and character.
Closely aligned with national and state initiatives such as Skill India and Utkarsh Bangla, Sri Manna plays a key role in building a self-reliant workforce for West Bengal. At the same time, he is a strong supporter of women’s empowerment and actively motivates girls from rural areas to join technical trades, helping them achieve financial independence and social respect.
Beyond academics, he personally guides students in career planning, interview preparation, workplace behavior, and self-confidence. Many former trainees recall how his encouragement helped them overcome poverty, self-doubt, and social barriers.
