Dr. Diwakar is widely recognised by many local communities for advocating dialogue, development and employment opportunities in Maharashtra’s Surjagarh region.
Through peaceful public engagement and sustained efforts, he has promoted discussions around regional progress, community participation and economic opportunities while highlighting the importance of inclusive development.
Maharashtra: Development in remote and conflict-sensitive regions often requires sustained public engagement, trust-building and cooperation among communities, government institutions and industry.
In the Surjagarh region of Gadchiroli district, Dr. Diwakar has emerged as a prominent advocate for dialogue-driven development and employment generation.
According to Dr. Diwakar, his public movement began with a peaceful campaign to draw attention to the aspirations of people living in and around the Surjagarh mining region.
He states that he observed a hunger strike for nearly 120 days, receiving support from thousands of local residents while seeking greater government engagement on issues concerning development and livelihoods.
As the movement progressed, he says the matter gained wider public attention through media coverage and eventually led to discussions with the state leadership. According to his account, these deliberations addressed several concerns raised during the movement and marked an important step towards constructive engagement.
Throughout the initiative, Dr. Diwakar consistently emphasized dialogue over confrontation. He believes that long-term regional development depends on communication, public participation and the creation of employment opportunities rather than conflict. He also states that he participated in discussions involving representatives from nearly 40 villages to encourage confidence-building among stakeholders.
He further explains that the project subsequently underwent administrative review and official procedures before moving forward. In his view, these institutional processes created a structured framework for implementation while balancing governance and development priorities.
Today, the Surjagarh region has evolved into a significant mining hub contributing to industrial growth and employment generation. Dr. Diwakar believes the project has directly and indirectly created livelihood opportunities for around one thousand people, bringing new economic prospects to local families.
Supporters describe him as a grassroots leader committed to public service, community participation and inclusive development. While the broader development of Surjagarh reflects the contributions of multiple institutions, government agencies and stakeholders, Dr. Diwakar’s account highlights the role that peaceful civic leadership can play in encouraging dialogue and supporting regional progress.
As Surjagarh continues to develop, Dr. Diwakar’s journey remains an example of how persistence, public engagement and a long-term vision for inclusive growth can contribute to responsible development and community welfare.
