Authorities in Kashmir have warned people in Ganderbal district and rural areas of Srinagar not to drink spring water directly. This warning comes after tests showed that samples from 37 water bodies contained harmful bacteria. The notice was issued by the Jal Shakti department on Wednesday.
The alert follows reports of 17 deaths in Rajouri district linked to a mysterious illness, raising concerns about water safety. The Jal Shakti (PHE) Rural Water Supply Division tested various springs in Ganderbal district and found that 37 out of 40 samples were unsafe for drinking.
Because of these results, the department is advising residents to stop using spring water for drinking and to use tap water instead until further notice. If people must use spring water, they should boil it for a long time to kill any harmful bacteria.
The authorities are taking these steps to protect public health and ensure safe drinking water in the area. Residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines to avoid any health risks from contaminated water.
