The launch of the new Vande Bharat train service from Katra to Srinagar, which was supposed to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17, 2025, has been postponed. Officials have stated that there was no official announcement about the inauguration, and earlier reports about the event were not confirmed.
This new train service is expected to improve travel in the region and features impressive engineering, including the Anji Khad Bridge, which is 331 meters tall, and the Chenab Bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world at 359 meters—taller than the Eiffel Tower. These bridges will not only make travel easier but also show how India is advancing in infrastructure.
The Vande Bharat train is built to run smoothly even in very cold weather, withstanding temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. It will travel on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), covering the 150-kilometer distance in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Important stops along the way will include Reasi and Banihal.
As people wait for news about the new launch date, the Vande Bharat train service represents India’s progress in railway technology and infrastructure.
