Donald Trump has selected Representative Elise Stefanik, Republican of New York, for the role of UN
ambassador in his upcoming administration. “Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” Trump said in a statement Monday announcing his pick, according to the AP news agency.
Earlier, in the Trump’s administration, was the one who held the role of the UN ambassador in his first term. She is one of the Republicans who challenged Trump for the GOP nomination.
Who is Elsie Stefanik?
She was born and raised in Upstate New York. Elise spent her early years working at her family’s small enterprise. Her upbringing in a family-run business environment instilled in her the fundamental principles of diligence, tenacity and resolve.
Being the first in her immediate family to attend university, she achieved an Honours degree from Harvard. Subsequently, from 2006 to 2009, she held a position in the West Wing of the White House, working within President George W.
Bush’s Domestic Policy Council Staff and the Chief of Staff’s office. In this role, she supported the oversight of policy formulation across economic and domestic matters.
Stefanik, 40, who serves as House Republican Conference Chair, has long been one of Trump’s most loyal allies in the House, and was among those discussed as a potential vice presidential choice.
She has consistently backed Israel and played a significant role in congressional hearings that resulted in several university presidents stepping down. These resignations followed their responses to campus disturbances after Hamas’s terror attack on Israel and the subsequent Gaza conflict, New York Times reported.
With House Republicans likely to secure a narrow majority in the upcoming Congress, Stefanik’s departure could further reduce their margin until a replacement is elected in her district, which is considered reliably Republican.
Her appointment follows Trump’s recent selection of Susie Wiles, an experienced political strategist from his campaign, as White House chief of staff. Additionally, on Sunday evening, Trump appointed Thomas D Homan, known for his strict immigration stance, as “border czar.”
