Poonch, 1 March – A tragic accident has led to a major search and rescue operation in Poonch. The accident happened when a Xylo vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the Poonch River near Kalai.
The operation is being led by DySP Headquarters Poonch, Sh Neeraj Sharma, and SHO PS Poonch, Insp Rashad. Police teams have been working hard to find and rescue the missing people. They have been searching from Kalai to the Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge and further down to Khari Karmara, despite difficult conditions.
So far, two bodies have been found, bringing the death toll to two. The first victim, a woman named Shaheena Akhtar, was found on Saturday. She was the wife of Karamat Hussain, who lives in Manjakote. The body of a man was recovered on Friday by teams from the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The accident occurred on Thursday when the passenger vehicle lost control and fell into the Dingla River. Seven passengers were rescued with injuries, but four people are missing 2 bodies were recovered but a woman and her two-day-old baby still missing.
SSP Poonch, Shafqat Hussain, stated that the search efforts will continue until all missing persons are found. The Poonch Police are dedicated to ensuring the safety of everyone in the community and are providing support to the affected families during this difficult time.
