The Kashmir Valley is in the middle of Chillai Kalan, a 40-day period of very cold winter. On Day 4, temperatures dropped a lot.
In Srinagar, it was extremely cold at -6.6°C, one of the coldest nights this season. Tourist places like Pahalgam and Gulmarg were also cold, with temperatures at -7.8°C and -1.9°C. Gulmarg was a bit warmer for visitors.
In south Kashmir, the cold is severe. Shopian was the coldest at -8.8°C. Anantnag and Pulwama both had temperatures of -8.3°C, and Kulgam was at -6.7°C.
Other areas were also freezing. Budgam and Ganderbal recorded -7.0°C and -6.5°C. In the north, Bandipora and Baramulla saw -6.4°C and -6.0°C. Khudwani was at -7.1°C.
The cold has caused water to freeze and roads to become slippery, making it hard for people to get around.
People are advised to be careful because of the cold weather.
