Superstar Rajinikanth is back with director Nelson for the much-anticipated sequel, “Jailer 2,” produced by Sun Pictures. This new film follows the success of the original “Jailer,” which was released in 2023 and became the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year.
Director Nelson shared some details about the sequel at an event in 2024, creating a buzz among fans. The official announcement came with a fun teaser video released on Pongal, January 14, 2025. In the video, Nelson and music composer Anirudh Ravichander are seen relaxing in Goa while a news report warns of a cyclone heading towards Chennai. Nelson humorously mentions that since his last film came out, five cyclones have passed and Donald Trump has become the U.S. president.
As the teaser continues, viewers see a shocking scene where a mysterious man attacks a group of people. This attacker is revealed to be ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer known for his dangerous reputation. In the first movie, Muthuvel Pandian took action when his son got involved with a mafia gang.
Anirudh Ravichander will return to create the music for “Jailer 2,” and Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures is producing the film. The first “Jailer,” which hit theaters on August 10, 2023, featured special appearances by stars like Shivarajkumar and Mohanlal, along with Vinayakan as a fierce villain.
