Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – President Droupadi Murmu on Monday took a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh Mela. The Sangam is the meeting point of three rivers: the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Dressed in a white saree, she offered prayers while standing in the sacred water.
After her dip, President Murmu performed the Ganga Aarti and conducted a ‘pooja’ ceremony, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the event. She was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which started on January 13, is the largest spiritual gathering in the world, attracting millions of people from India and beyond. The festival will end on February 26, which is Mahashivratri.
An official statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan mentioned that after visiting the Sangam, President Murmu would also visit the Akshayavat and Hanuman Mandir, as well as the Digital Kumbh Anubhav Centre.
This year’s Kumbh Mela has seen many important figures participate. The first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, also took a holy dip during the Kumbh Mela. Just last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Mela and took a dip in the Sangam, sharing his spiritual experience and prayers for the country.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, over 40 crore devotees have already participated in the ongoing Kumbh Mela. The highest number of people took a dip on January 29 during Mauni Amavasya, with around eight crore devotees joining in.
Many political leaders and celebrities have also taken part in the Kumbh Mela, making it a vibrant celebration of faith and culture. The event continues to showcase India’s rich traditions and the strong spirit of devotion that brings millions together.
