Since it began in 2016-17, the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) has approved 3,34,986 houses for Jammu and Kashmir. By December 2024, 1,28,170 of these houses have been built. This information was shared by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development, in the Rajya Sabha.
In the last five years, Jammu and Kashmir has made progress with this housing scheme. The region completed 5,016 houses in 2019-20, 21,569 in 2020-21, and 42,515 in 2021-22. In 2023-24 alone, 79,799 houses were finished out of a target of 1,38,106.
Over the past five years, the scheme provided Rs 3,253.25 crore to the region, with the most money, Rs 1,234.69 crore, given in 2023-24.
The PMAY-G program aims to give pucca houses with basic facilities to rural families living in poor conditions. People are chosen based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011, and the list is checked by the community. Each house should be built within 12 months. The goal is to complete 4.95 crore houses across India by March 2029.
