Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a big step to tackle obesity in India by appointing Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and ten other well-known figures to help raise awareness about healthy eating and reduce the use of edible oils in meals.
As mentioned in yesterday’s #MannKiBaat, I would like to nominate the following people to help strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food. I also request them to nominate 10 people each so that our movement gets bigger!… pic.twitter.com/bpzmgnXsp4

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi mentioned this initiative, referring to his earlier discussion on the topic during his show #MannKiBaat. He expressed his hope that these appointed individuals would play an important role in encouraging healthier eating habits among people.
The list of nominees includes a variety of influential personalities, such as businessman Anand Mahindra, singer Shreya Ghoshal, actor Madhavan, and athlete Mirabai Chanu. Other notable names include actor Mohanlal, tech leader Nandan Nilekani, and author Smt. Sudha Murty. PM Modi also asked these individuals to each suggest ten more people to help expand the movement, highlighting the need for teamwork in making India healthier.
The Prime Minister ended his post with a motivating message: “Together, we can make India fitter and healthier. #FightObesity.” This initiative shows the government’s commitment to promoting public health and encouraging everyone to live healthier lives.
As this campaign moves forward, it is expected to reach many people and create a greater awareness of health and wellness across the country.
