Srinagar, 04 April – The Jammu and Kashmir alliance, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, held an important meeting on Thursday evening where they passed two key resolutions. They strongly opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and recent decisions made by the Lieutenant Governor.
The meeting took place at Fairview Gupkar, the official residence of the Deputy Chief Minister. After the meeting, National Conference (NC) MLA Tanvir Sadiq spoke to the media, saying that the alliance believes the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is “anti-minority and anti-Muslim.” He expressed worries about how the bill could affect Waqf properties and the Muslim community in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sadiq stressed that the people’s choices should be respected and warned that working with the J&K Lieutenant Governor and the central government should not be seen as a weakness. He made a final appeal against one-sided decisions, especially regarding recent administrative changes made by LG Manoj Sinha. He urged the authorities to think again about these decisions.
Congress legislator Nizamuddin Bhat also spoke, calling for respect for political processes and the importance of keeping the legislature strong. He said, “New Delhi cannot run the region through orders while ignoring the voices of the people’s elected representatives.”
The alliance’s resolutions show growing concerns among local leaders about how Jammu and Kashmir is being governed and the need to respect democratic processes.
