Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said on Friday that he was placed under house arrest and not allowed to attend prayers at the Jama Masjid for the third week in a row.
Mirwaiz, who is the main religious leader in Kashmir, claimed he was stopped from praying at the Jama Masjid in Nowhatta, Srinagar.
The police have not commented on his claim.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said, “Again, I am not allowed to go to Jama Masjid on a Friday for the second week. When I speak about people’s issues during prayers, it seems to make the authorities nervous, so they lock me up!”
He added that these actions cause “disappointment” among the people.
Mirwaiz expressed that it hurts when those in power use force to detain him, ignoring the sadness it causes to him, the people, and the Muslims of the valley.
