The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has urged the government to compensate business owners who have suffered losses due to a recent surge in fire incidents across the Valley. The increasing number of fires has caused significant damage to shops and other businesses, prompting the KTA to seek immediate government action. In just the first week of the year, over 40 fire incidents have been reported, severely impacting small businesses and raising concerns about fire safety.
Aijaz Shahdhar, President of the KTA, pointed out the difficulties faced by small shopkeepers who often lack insurance coverage, leaving them financially vulnerable after such disasters. “While efforts have been made to help households affected by fires, small business owners are frequently left out of relief measures. This needs to change,” Shahdhar stated.
The KTA is advocating for the creation of a dedicated relief fund to support small business owners affected by fires. The organization noted that the winter months have seen an alarming increase in fire incidents, posing a serious threat to the already struggling economy of the Valley.
“We urge the government to focus on the challenges faced by small business owners and ensure they have access to resources needed for recovery and rebuilding,” Shahdhar added.
The trade group emphasized the need for a comprehensive relief framework that includes businesses of all sizes, stressing that such measures are essential to safeguarding the Valley’s economic stability against the devastating effects of unforeseen disasters.
