Jammu, 10 April: The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua, led by SSP Shobhit Saksena, successfully destroyed an illegal opium farm in the Thana Plassi area of PS Basohli. They seized about 126 kilograms of opium plants (poppy) and arrested one person.
On April 7, 2025, a police patrol received a tip-off about illegal opium cultivation in Thana Plassi. The information pointed to a local man named Makhan Lal, who was reportedly growing opium plants in the backyard of his house for selling.
Acting on this information, the police team, guided by the SHO of PS Basohli and the SDPO Basohli, quickly went to the location. They found and seized 1,700 opium poppy plants, weighing a total of 126 kilograms. Makhan Lal was arrested at the scene.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 32/2025, according to sections 8 and 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is ongoing.
