The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has fired two government employees—one from the Police Department and another from the Public Works (R&B) Department—because of their involvement in anti-national and terror-related activities.
The two dismissed officials are Basharat Ahmad Mir, an Assistant Wireless Operator in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Ishtiyak Ahmad Malik, a Senior Assistant in the Public Works Department. Both were flagged by law enforcement and intelligence agencies for their suspected roles in activities that could harm the state.
Basharat Ahmad Mir was hired as a wireless operator in 2010 and worked in different units of the J&K Police until 2017. Reports say he was in constant contact with intelligence operatives from Pakistan and shared sensitive information about security and infrastructure, which posed a threat to national security.
Ishtiyak Ahmad Malik, from Shitroo Larnoo in District Anantnag, has been identified as a member of the banned group Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities claim he worked with Hizbul Mujahideen, helping to create a network of supporters and providing logistics and intelligence to militants, especially in South Kashmir.
The decision to fire these employees shows the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s commitment to national security and its determination to take action against those involved in activities that threaten the state.
