Bumrah had an outstanding year, excelling in every match he played. He beat other strong nominees like Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook to win this award. With this honor, he becomes the fifth Indian cricketer to receive this trophy, joining the ranks of legends like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli.
Earlier in 2024, Bumrah was also named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year. He made headlines during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where he became the fastest Indian pacer to take 200 Test wickets. He finished the year with a record 907 points in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings, the highest ever for an Indian bowler.
Bumrah played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup victory in the Caribbean and the United States. He was named Player of the Tournament after taking 15 wickets at an impressive average of 8.26 and an economy rate of just 4.17. His best performances included taking 3 wickets for 14 runs against Pakistan and 2 wickets for 18 runs in the final against South Africa.
In Test cricket, Bumrah was the top wicket-taker of the year, claiming 71 wickets in just 13 matches. He was especially impressive in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he took 32 wickets and was named Player of the Series. He had standout performances in Perth, Brisbane, and Melbourne, where he dominated the Australian batsmen.
Despite his success, Bumrah faced challenges, including an injury that kept him from playing in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which led to India losing the series. However, his achievements throughout the year have established him as one of the best fast bowlers in the world.
As Bumrah continues to break records and impress fans, his remarkable year in 2024 will be remembered as a significant part of his cricketing journey. The cricket world looks forward to seeing what he will achieve next.
