New Delhi: On Thursday, Union minister Jitendra Singh announced that Jammu will establish its own railway division, as the railway ministry has approved a proposal in this regard. In a series of messages on X, Singh noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is actively overseeing the development of railway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi aims to strengthen the railway services and administrative framework in Jammu, which is set to become a significant railway hub when the Kashmir valley is linked to the rest of India through a rail network for the first time, Singh, the minister of state for personnel, remarked.
“This is encouraging news for #Jammu… The Railways will create a dedicated Division Headquarters at Jammu… A delegation from the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by their President Sh Arun Gupta, approached me with a proposal to establish the Railways Division headquarters in Jammu,” he posted on the microblogging platform.

“This matter was raised with Railways Minister Sh @AshwiniVaishnaw. I am pleased to report that the Railway Ministry has approved the proposal and commenced the process to implement it,” added the Lok Sabha member from Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.
In their letter to the minister, the delegation asserted that granting Jammu full-fledged divisional status will not only enhance train operations but also create new job opportunities for local residents.
Jammu, an important pilgrimage destination, currently falls under the Firozpur division of the Northern Railway.
