Jammu: On January 21, 2025, at around 1:40 PM, Sumit Jandyal was shot while driving a red Thar vehicle (No. JK21G/0770) near Jewel Rotary in Jammu. The attackers fled the scene after stealing a grey Scooty (No. JK02DL/8834). The victim was taken to GMC Jammu but was sadly declared dead by doctors.
In response to the shooting, senior police officers quickly arrived at the scene, and several police teams were sent out to investigate. Using information from witnesses, technical analysis, and CCTV footage, the police identified the suspects involved. Due to the seriousness of the situation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed by SSP Jammu, Sh. Joginder Singh.
The SIT conducted extensive operations, rounding up about 30 suspects and carrying out raids in Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. During the investigation, it was found that the murder was linked to an ongoing rivalry between Vikas Slathia, also known as Vicky Slathia, and Sumit Jandyal. This feud had previously led to the murder of Akshay Kumar by Vicky Slathia’s group in 2023.
The investigation revealed that after the killing of a criminal named Vasudev Kumar during a police raid, Vikas Slathia planned to kill Sumit Jandyal as revenge. Harsh Singh, known as Banta, was in contact with Vicky Slathia and was asked to help arrange the murder.
To carry out the crime, a room was rented in the Shastri Nagar area, and weapons were obtained from outside Jammu and Kashmir. A black Alto car (No. JK02AP/6546) was bought specifically for the murder about a week before it happened, and the suspects had been watching Sumit Jandyal’s movements for the past four months.
The police have recovered the Alto car, an I20 car (No. JK12C/5339) used in the crime, and the stolen Scooty from different locations in Jammu and Samba districts. So far, 11 people, including two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with the case, including shooters and those who helped plan the crime.
Jammu Police are working hard to catch the remaining suspects involved in the murder. They are also looking into the money involved in planning and carrying out the crime. The main person behind the plot, who is believed to be outside India, has been identified, and efforts are being made to bring them back to India.
The Jammu Police are committed to fighting crime and have promised to take strong action against gangsters. They have warned anyone involved in criminal activities that they will face serious consequences if they do not stop.
