Jammu, 3 February 2025 – Police have arrested five people, including the main suspect, in the murder of Sumit Jandiyal, a 37-year-old gangster linked to the Gataro gang. Jandiyal was shot dead by members of a rival gang on January 21 in Jammu city.
After the murder, police started a search to find the attackers. The main suspect, named Harash, along with his accomplices Arun, Ajay, and two others, Abihay and Raj, were caught during a joint operation by the Crime Branch and Jammu and Kashmir Police in New Delhi.
Officials said the suspects were trying to escape to Nepal after the murder when they were arrested near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in New Delhi on Sunday.
“Harash, Arun, and Ajay were involved in the murder, with Harash being the main suspect,” an officer said. The police are continuing their investigation and have requested more time to question the suspects.
On the day of the incident, three attackers stopped Jandiyal’s SUV at Jewel Chowk and fired four shots at him. He was seriously injured and taken to the Government Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead. The attackers then stole a motorcycle at gunpoint to escape.
Authorities are working hard to gather more information and ensure that everyone involved in the crime is brought to justice.
