In the ongoing discussions regarding portfolio allocation after the formation of the Maharashtra government, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has requested the crucial Home Ministry from the BJP, as stated by Shiv Sena MLA Bharat Gogavale.
He mentioned on Friday that the cabinet expansion is expected to occur between December 11 and 16, in anticipation of the Winter Session of the State legislature that begins on December 16 in Nagpur, the state’s second capital. Gogavale noted that Devendra Fadnavis, who has returned as Chief Minister in the newly formed government, previously managed the Home Department when he served as Deputy CM in the Shinde administration. “Saheb (Eknath Shinde) has requested the home portfolio, and discussions regarding allocation are ongoing,” Gogavale remarked.
When inquired about who received this demand, he suggested that it was likely directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He also mentioned that Shiv Sena is looking to revise the portfolios it had in the previous Mahayuti government and expressed optimism that the discussions regarding department allocations would conclude within a couple of days. In the context of the Maharashtra government formation, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was inaugurated as Chief Minister for a third term on Thursday during a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Shinde and Ajit Pawar were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.
The event was attended by PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and other prominent NDA leaders, with only the top three leaders taking the oath of office.
