A truck driver hit people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring many more. This happened just after the city celebrated New Year’s.
The crash occurred around 3:15 a.m. at Bourbon and Canal streets, where people were watching fireworks.
NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency agency, said 10 people died and at least 35 were injured. More details about the injuries are not available yet.
Witnesses told News Agency that the driver got out of the truck and started shooting. Police shot back. Videos online showed bodies on the street and gunshots could be heard.
Emergency vehicles were at the scene afterward.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals like University Medical Center and Touro Hospital. Many people were in town for New Year’s and a big football game between Georgia and Notre Dame.
A horrific act of violence took place on Bourbon Street earlier this morning.
Please join Sharon and I in praying for all the victims and first responders on scene.
I urge all near the scene to avoid the area.
