Dr. Jaffer Akhoon, the leader of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council in Kargil, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss important needs for Ladakh.
Dr. Akhoon asked for Purgi and Balti to be made the main official languages of Ladakh because most people speak these languages. He also suggested adding Sheena/Dardi as another official language to show the area’s diverse culture.
He requested the creation of two new districts in Ladakh: one for Sankoo and another for Shakar Chiktan-Shargole. This would help make government services better and closer to the people.
Dr. Akhoon also talked about starting civil flights in Kargil, especially during winter. Better air travel would help tourism and provide necessary transport for locals in tough winter months.
He discussed issues related to Aakashwani Kargil too.
Home Minister Amit Shah promised to look into these requests and find ways to address them.
Dr. Akhoon also spoke with the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, who responded positively to improving air travel in Ladakh and promised full support.
