CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of asphyxiation in Kashmir, which have become a recurring issue during the winter months. On Monday, he urged the government to provide carbon monoxide sensors to households at subsidized rates to prevent further tragedies.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, Tarigami noted that seven lives have already been lost due to asphyxiation in Kashmir, with one person still in critical condition. He called on the government to create a policy for distributing carbon monoxide sensors through local bodies at reduced costs.
While acknowledging that the victims cannot be brought back, Tarigami emphasized the importance of compensating the affected families as a humanitarian gesture. He also stressed the need for immediate and free medical treatment for those suffering from suffocation.
Tarigami underscored the necessity of awareness campaigns at the village level to educate people about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. He urged the government to take concrete steps to prevent further incidents of suffocation in Jammu and Kashmir.
