Uma Thomas, a Congress MLA from Thrikkakkara in Kerala, had a serious accident on Sunday. She fell from a height of 20 feet at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The fall happened while she was attending a dance program.
After the fall, Uma Thomas was bleeding heavily and was quickly taken to Renai Medicity, a nearby hospital. Right now, she is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The accident occurred because there was little space between the front row seats and the edge of the gallery, which was only blocked off by a rope. While talking to some people who greeted her, she accidentally fell and hit her head on the concrete ground below.
Doctors say Uma Thomas has injuries to her brain, spine, and lungs. She is still unconscious and will be watched closely for 24 hours. A team of medical experts will decide on the next steps for her treatment, according to Kerala’s health minister, Veena George.
The incident happened just before a big dance performance by about 12,000 dancers, led by actress and Bharatanatyam artist Divya Unni. They were set to perform a special song at the stadium.
