Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that the new block at the Bone & Joint Hospital in Barzulla will be ready by January 2025. This project, funded by the World Bank under the Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project, will add 160 beds to the hospital, increasing its capacity from 150 to 310 beds.
The new facility is built with earthquake-resistant technology and is important for addressing space issues caused by a fire in 2022 that reduced the hospital’s original capacity of 200 beds.
During his visit, the Chief Minister instructed the teams working on the project to finish quickly so that patient care can improve and the facility can serve the public soon.
He also visited the Children’s Hospital in Bemina, which has 500 beds. People from remote areas told him about the lack of a Sarai (inn) for their stay. He immediately ordered the construction of a Sarai to help them.
Hospital staff mentioned problems like limited space for expanding special services and not enough medical staff. The Chief Minister promised to focus on solving these issues.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare facilities across Jammu and Kashmir. He told hospital authorities to make sure medicines and essential supplies are available on time and to address staffing shortages.
Accompanied by Health Minister Sakeena Itoo and other officials, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing public healthcare services and infrastructure.
