Police on Sunday found the body of Mohammad Showkat, a young Gujjar laborer, was found in the Vaishow Nallah in Mah Ashmuji, Kulgam district. Showkat had been missing for over a month along with two other young men from Rajouri.
Showkat, the son of Mohammad Sadiq Bajad, went missing with his brother Riyaz Ahmad Bajad and their friend Mukhtar Ahmad. The three had traveled to Ashmuji on February 13 to attend a family function but never arrived. Their families reported them missing when they could not reach them, and their phones were turned off.
Just three days before Showkat’s body was found, the body of Riyaz was discovered in the same nallah. This has made the search for Mukhtar even more urgent. The families have been searching for the young men, hoping for good news.
Local police, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been conducting search operations in the area. They are still looking for Mukhtar Ahmad and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
This tragic situation has deeply affected the community, especially the families of the missing youths. As the search continues, everyone is hoping for Mukhtar’s safe return.
