The BJP has identified a strategy to counter the Congress protests regarding the Adani issue. The ruling party and government plan to leverage the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) reports as a tool to target Congress during the rest of the Parliament session. On Thursday, the BJP held a press conference and raised the OCCRP topic in both Houses of Parliament.
The ruling party’s labeling of Rahul Gandhi as a traitor and anti-national represents a significant attack on the new Leader of the Opposition, which Congress has strongly condemned. According to sources, both the Adani issue and the OCCRP matter may be brought up during next week’s parliamentary debate on the Constitution in the Lok Sabha. Senior BJP leaders have indicated to News18 that, although the Adani issue may not be relevant to the constitutional debate, they are prepared to address it using the OCCRP reports if Congress continues its protests.
Rahul Gandhi has been leading demonstrations outside Parliament over the Adani allegations throughout the week. The BJP posits that a covert deep state network has turned its focus to India via the OCCRP, which has published many reports about the country. They argue that this has benefited the Congress party and its agenda, despite the Supreme Court dismissing some claims made in OCCRP reports, such as the Pegasus controversy.
The BJP claims that leaders of the Congress party and the INDIA coalition are exploiting unfounded and sensationalized reports from the OCCRP for their own political gains, without considering how these compromised sources might undermine India’s development. In addition, a recent report from the French publication ‘Mediapart’ alleges that the OCCRP receives funding from the US government and organizations associated with George Soros.
