Authorities have taken property worth more than ₹2.22 crores from Harpreet Singh, who is accused of pretending to be a lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army. He allegedly tricked people into believing he could get them jobs in different central government departments in Jammu and Kashmir.
The case started when Arun Sharma from Nagrota filed a complaint against Singh, saying he was a victim of fraud, cheating, and forgery, and that he lost a lot of money because of Singh’s actions. After the complaint, the police began an investigation and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Investigators found that Singh had taken large amounts of money from his victims. He used some of this money to buy property in Channi Bija, which is now worth over ₹2.22 crores.
The authorities asked the court to take control of the property, and on January 18, the court agreed. The property was taken under the supervision of the Bahu tehsildar.
The court has given Singh 14 days to explain why the property, which is believed to have been bought with money from his scams, should not be sold to help pay back the victims. If he does not provide a good reason, the property will be auctioned off to compensate those he cheated.
