Speaking to journalists after a private event in the area, Abdullah expressed confidence in the return of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. When questioned about Congress leaders’ remarks that the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly resolution does not reference the restoration of Article 370, Abdullah mentioned that they have their own agenda since their party is under scrutiny from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah “repeatedly attacking them merely to secure election victories.”
“The BJP believes they can undermine the Congress, but we will not permit that to occur,” the former Chief Minister stated, adding, “We remain optimistic that the INDIA alliance will triumph in the elections.” Regarding the criticism directed at the National Conference (NC) Government in the Union Territory by local political entities for supposedly misleading citizens concerning the resolution in relation to Article 370, Abdullah said that they are entitled to express their concerns. “Our election manifesto is available to the public, and we are adhering to it,” he remarked.
Abdullah reacted sharply to an inquiry regarding the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, questioning, “What kind of response do you expect from the Centre regarding the statehood restoration resolution? How long has the (NC) Government been in place? Do you anticipate statehood to simply descend from the sky?”

In response to Shah’s assertion that Modi is committed to altering the Waqf Act despite opposition from leading rivals, the former Union Minister remarked, “He is the sovereign of India. He can do as he wishes. He is the monarch.” When asked about the BJP’s slogan “Batenge Toh Katenge,” the NC leader responded, “What does this slogan signify? Are we not united? Is India not one? India embodies unity in diversity. As long as we reinforce our diversity, India will thrive. We must bolster diversity for a resilient India.”
