During the 77th Army Day celebrations, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted the significant drop in violence in Jammu and Kashmir. He credited the hard work of security forces for this improvement, noting that the peaceful conduct of recent Assembly elections, Lok Sabha polls, and the Amarnath Yatra shows a better security situation in the region.
General Dwivedi said, “In Jammu and Kashmir, the ongoing efforts of our security forces have led to a big reduction in violence. The successful completion of elections and the Amarnath Yatra without any issues is a clear sign of progress.”
He also discussed the situation along the northern borders, stating that while things are stable, they remain sensitive. He assured that the Indian Army is fully prepared to handle any challenges. “We are focusing on building modern and important infrastructure on the northern borders,” he added.
On the western front, General Dwivedi mentioned that a ceasefire is being maintained along the Line of Control (LoC), but there are still attempts at infiltration that require constant vigilance.
The Army Chief emphasized the Army’s commitment to being self-reliant and operationally excellent. He said, “Our country is moving towards becoming a developed nation, and a stable and secure environment is essential for this progress. The Indian Army plays a key role in ensuring that stability.”
He expressed confidence in the Army’s transformation into a modern and technology-driven force, stating, “I believe we will continue to progress and make the Indian Army ready for the future.”
This year’s Army Day parade was held in Pune for the first time, as part of a plan to celebrate Army Day in different cities. General Dwivedi noted the importance of Pune, saying, “This region has a rich history of military courage and resilience, making this parade especially significant.”
As the Indian Army adapts to new challenges, its commitment to maintaining peace and security remains crucial for the nation’s development.
