In a significant move against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police have arrested five individuals and seized contraband substances in two separate operations.
The first incident occurred during a routine checkpoint at Halmulla Sangam, where police intercepted a Wagon-R vehicle (JK01M-4136). Upon inspection, officers discovered 21 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The three individuals in the vehicle—Javid Ahmad Sheikh from Kuchmulla Tral, Mohd Altaf Sheikh from Kanihama Nowgam Srinagar, and Mohd Haroon Parry from Charsoo Awantipora—were immediately arrested. Both the contraband and the vehicle were confiscated.
In a separate operation, police stopped a truck from Jupiter Cargo Transport Company, Srinagar (JK01AS-5073), for inspection at Jablipora NHW near Fruit Mandi. A search revealed 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The truck driver, Javaid Ahmad Shah, and the conductor, Shabir Ahmad Shah, both from Bahoo, Awantipora, were taken into custody. The truck was also seized, and a case has been filed.
These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of Anantnag Police to tackle the drug problem and safeguard the community. Authorities urge the public to report any information related to drug trafficking to support the mission of creating a drug-free society.
