Amit Banerji, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Table Space, a leading workspace solutions provider, has passed away, as announced by the company on January 6. The exact cause of his death is currently unknown, though some media reports suggest it may have been due to a heart attack.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Table Space expressed deep sorrow over Banerji’s passing, highlighting his visionary leadership that significantly impacted the flexible workspace industry in India. “Amit’s leadership built Table Space into what it is today,” the spokesperson noted, adding that he will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues.
Banerji, who was about 44 years old, founded Table Space in September 2017. The company provides managed workspaces for large and mid-sized tenants seeking long-term office solutions.

He graduated with a B Tech in Computer Science from Punjab Technical University and began his career at Accenture in 2004. During his 13-year tenure there, he handled real estate strategy, planning, acquisitions, deal structuring, finance, and operations, which laid the groundwork for starting Table Space.
Banerji co-founded Table Space with seven others, including Vice-chairman Karan Chopra, President Kunal Mehra, and Chief Strategy Officer Srinivas Prasad. The company is backed by Hillhouse Capital and was planning to go public in 2025, aiming to raise over Rs 3,500 crore with a valuation of approximately $2.5 billion.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Banerji specialized in SEZ deal structuring, having managed over ten million square feet of such deals. He also held patents for inventions in systems and technology integration.
His sudden passing adds to a series of recent losses in the startup community, following the deaths of Rohan Mirchandani of Epigamia, Rohan Malhotra of Good Capital, and Ambareesh Murty of Pepperfry.
Table Space is recognized as a market leader in enterprise managed workspaces, working with Fortune 500 companies like Google, Apple, and Dell. The company not only leases and modernizes large spaces but also collaborates with Indian realtors for joint ventures in commercial real estate.
