JAMMU, 9 April: In a recent meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, PDP leader Waheed ur Rehman Para raised important questions about the issuance of domicile certificates in the Union Territory. On Wednesday, Para pointed out that over 3.5 million domicile certificates have been issued in the last two years, with 83,742 of those going to non-locals.
Para expressed concerns about how these certificates were given out, especially regarding the identity and background of the non-locals. He said, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have a right to know who these 83,742 individuals are and why they were granted domicile status.”
This issue has sparked a lot of discussion among political groups, with opposition parties calling for more information and a review of the rules for issuing domicile certificates. So far, the government has not responded officially to Para’s concerns, leaving many questions unanswered.
The topic of domicile certificates is sensitive in Jammu and Kashmir, as it can affect local jobs, land ownership, and access to resources. Critics worry that allowing non-locals to receive these certificates could have negative effects on the local population.
As the debate continues, the PDP and other opposition parties are pushing for a closer look at the process of issuing domicile certificates to ensure fairness and transparency for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
