Kulgam, 2 April – A serious car accident near the Navyug Tunnel (NG-44) on the Jammu-Srinagar highway resulted in two deaths and three injuries on Tuesday evening. The accident happened when an MG Hector vehicle, with the registration number JK01AL 0707, lost control while speeding and crashed into a divider and a police barrier.
Officials reported that the vehicle skidded off the road, hitting the barrier near the tunnel. Among the injured was a Special Police Officer (SPO) who was nearby at the time. Initially, five people were hurt, and they were quickly taken to the Emergency Hospital in Qazigund. Later, they were moved to the Government Medical College in Anantnag for further treatment.
Sadly, Zubair Ahmad Wani, a resident of Heerpora in Shopian, was declared dead when he arrived at the hospital. Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, also from Shopian, died from his injuries later that night.
The other injured individuals are Irshad Ahmad Mir and Umar Bashir Najar, both from Shopian, along with SPO Showkat Ahmad. Their conditions are being monitored as they receive medical care.
Local police have opened a case under several sections at the Police Station Qazigund Kulgam and are investigating the accident.
This tragic event comes just six days after another accident in the Navyug Tunnel, where an SRTC bus overturned, injuring 17 people, including the driver. The number of accidents in this area raises concerns about road safety and the need for drivers to be more careful.
As the community grieves the loss of life, there is a call for authorities to take action to improve road safety and prevent future accidents.
