Kathua, 31 March – Security forces are stepping up their efforts to combat terrorism in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Indian Army, are working hard to keep the area safe, especially after a recent encounter that resulted in the death of a police officer.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua range, spoke to reporters on Monday. He said, “We will keep working until every terrorist is caught. Our soldiers are dedicated to targeting terrorists to ensure the safety of our community.”
These increased security measures follow the ‘Safiyan’ operation, which started on March 23 after locals reported seeing suspected terrorists coming from Pakistan in the Sanyal area. During this operation, four police officers lost their lives, and two terrorists were killed. Security forces also found weapons and supplies at the encounter site, highlighting the seriousness of the threat.
As a result, the entire Kathua-Samba region is now on high alert. Authorities are conducting thorough searches, especially in the Samba sector near the international border, to ensure the area is safe and to find any remaining threats. DIG Sharma thanked local residents for their help in providing information to the police.
“We ask the community to stay alert and report anything suspicious to us. Your cooperation is very important in our fight against terrorism,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Sharma reassured the public that the morale and training of the security personnel are strong. “We are sad about the loss of our jawan, but our forces are well-trained and ready to face any challenge. We will not back down and are committed to protecting our people,” he added.
As the search operations continue, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are determined to keep the region safe. The teamwork between security agencies and the support of local residents are crucial in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
