Srinagar, January 28, 2025 – The Srinagar Police have made a big step in fighting drug trafficking by breaking up a major network that operated between states. They arrested two key drug suppliers from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, showing their strong commitment to tackling the drug problem in the area.
The investigation started with Case FIR No. 136/2024, which involves serious charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police gathered important evidence, including bank transactions and communication records, which helped them identify the main suppliers of drugs to local dealers.
A team from the Srinagar Police, led by Sub-Inspector Amandeep Singh, worked hard for ten days with local police in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. They arrested Raju Gupta from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, on January 23, 2025, and Mohammad Abrar from Bhajanpura, Delhi, the next day. Both men have been taken to court and are now in police custody.
In addition to the arrests, the police found a suspicious package linked to the suspects in Loni, Ghaziabad, and are working to retrieve it with court permission. They are also looking into the financial activities and properties of the suspects to see if they can seize any assets under the NDPS Act.
This case began on November 8, 2024, when police were conducting routine checks at Tarbal Chowk in Srinagar. During this operation, they arrested three drug peddlers: Aijaz Ahmad Ganie from Athwajan Pantha Chowk, Owais Ahmad Gojri from Brari Pora, and Mir Roman from Ali Masjid Eidgah. The police seized 140 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, ₹38,530 in suspected drug money, three mobile phones, and a drone camera that was allegedly used to watch drug buyers.
The investigation has revealed important connections to the two arrested drug dealers, showing how widespread the drug network is.
The Srinagar Police have promised to keep working hard to break down drug trafficking networks and protect the community. They are determined to bring to justice everyone involved in drug dealing, no matter where they are located. More arrests and seizures are expected as the investigation continues.
