Sopore, Baramulla – A gunfight took place on Sunday in Sopore, a town in Baramulla district, marking the first encounter of the year in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces, including the police, CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), and the army, started a joint operation in the Gujarpattu-Zaloora area after getting information about terrorists in the region.
In response to the threat, the village was cordoned off, with all entry and exit points sealed to prevent any potential escape routes for the suspects. During the operation, security forces discovered a terrorist hideout, which led to an exchange of gunfire. The forces retaliated after coming under fire from the hideout.
Drones were used to watch the area from above, and more troops were sent in to make the perimeter tighter. Reports suggest that there are two to three terrorists inside the hideout.
Last year, Jammu and Kashmir experienced several encounters that resulted in the deaths of numerous terrorists, including individuals from Pakistan, as well as security personnel. The ongoing efforts by security forces aim to maintain peace and security in the region while combating the persistent threat of terrorism. Further updates on the situation are expected as the operation continues.
