In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Srinagar Police have arrested four individuals involved in the illegal drug trade and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
The arrests took place during a routine naka checking operation conducted by a police team from the Panthachowk Police Station at Zafran Colony. Two suspects, identified as Furqan Majid Khan, also known as Kanda, and Sameer Hussain Dar, were apprehended after police discovered a significant amount of narcotics in their possession. Following the recovery, a case (FIR No. 02/2025) was registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to their arrest.
In a separate operation at Zawoora crossing, police arrested two more chronic drug peddlers who were traveling in a vehicle (Alto) with the registration number JK16B-3205. The suspects, Suhaibji Bhat from Ganderbal and Ubaidullah Lone from Hanji Danter Anantnag, were also found with a considerable quantity of contraband. A case (FIR No. 03/2025) has been registered against them under the NDPS Act.
Authorities are currently investigating both cases further to uncover the broader illegal narcotics network operating in the region. Notably, Ubaidullah Lone has been identified as a chronic drug supplier known for distributing drugs to the local youth, contributing to the destruction of many lives. Initial investigations suggest that he transports drugs from outside the Union Territory to supply them locally.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reiterated their appeal to the public to assist in the fight against drug trafficking by sharing any relevant information. Together, the community and law enforcement can work towards creating a safer, drug-free society.
