Today, cooks working in government schools across various schemes gathered peacefully at Chinar Park, Handwara. Led by the UT president of the Female Wing of the JK Teachers Forum and the Vice President of the National Movement for Old Pension, the protest aimed to bring attention to their grievances over unpaid salaries that do not comply with the Minimum Wages Act.
These workers play a crucial role in the daily operations of schools, yet they expressed frustration over being denied fair wages despite numerous appeals to authorities. They urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to address their concerns promptly.
Maymoona Khan, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of these workers, stating, “These workers are the backbone of our schools, ensuring that children receive essential services. It is disheartening to see them being denied their rightful dues. We appeal to the authorities to uphold their rights and provide them with justice.”
The peaceful protest concluded with a strong call for immediate action to ensure compliance with the Minimum Wages Act and to alleviate the financial hardships faced by these dedicated workers.
