At the opening of the new rail division in Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah promised that the region would not lose economically due to the direct rail link to Kashmir. Instead, the new division is expected to create jobs, boost trade, and increase tourism. “This is a big moment for Jammu and Kashmir. The people of Jammu have wanted their own railway division for a long time, and today, that wish has come true,” said Omar Abdullah.
He assured everyone that the new rail connection would make Jammu’s economy stronger, with more trade and tourism. “We will make sure Jammu benefits from this development,” he added.
The Chief Minister also talked about the job opportunities the new railway division will bring. “With operations now based in Jammu, local hiring will be a priority. This will create jobs for our youth and help the local economy,” he said.
The event also celebrated the connection of the Srinagar-Katra rail line, which will improve travel in the area. Omar Abdullah mentioned that this will solve problems like winter flight delays and high airfares.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, and other important guests attended the event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the division virtually.
