At the 40th Foundation Day celebration of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced a significant milestone: the development of India’s first indigenous paracetamol by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). This initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported raw materials for this widely used pain reliever and fever reducer, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” or self-reliant India.
Karnataka-based Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals Ltd will produce affordable paracetamol using this new technology. The announcement marks a major step towards making India self-sufficient in paracetamol production.
During his address, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted DSIR’s contributions over the past decade and emphasized the importance of collaboration with industry partners to foster innovation and technological growth. He also congratulated DSIR on its 40th anniversary and praised CSIR’s efforts in scientific and industrial research.
The event also marked the transfer of 16 more technologies under the “100 days 100 technology” program, aimed at enhancing collaboration between CSIR and MSME units registered under LAGHU UDYOG BHARATI. Technologies from CSIR-CSIO focus on scientific and industrial instruments with IoT capabilities, while those from CSIR-CEERI are centered on healthcare.
Dr. Singh commended ISRO’s recent achievements, including the SPADEX mission, and celebrated the progress made in the space sector, attributing these successes to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He also noted the government’s support for women-led development and startups.
Concluding his speech, Dr. Singh urged exploring non-governmental funding for innovation and highlighted the Anusandhan NRF initiative, which seeks to raise 60% of funds from non-government sectors. He assured the scientific community that 2025 would be another dynamic year for science and technology.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary DSIR and DG CSIR, recalled the Guwahati Science Declaration, aiming to make India a global economic hub by 2047. Prof. A.K. Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, emphasized the need for India to transition from a service economy to a product-based economy driven by technology.
