The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their fight against drugs by seizing properties worth Rs 1.28 crore in Budgam district. This action is part of four separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Additionally, a drug dealer was arrested in Kupwara, showing ongoing efforts to eliminate drugs from the region.
In Budgam, police seized houses, vehicles, and land from people involved in drug cases. In one case, Police Station Budgam took a house and vehicles, including a Mahindra Scorpio, a mini truck, and an Ashoka Leyland, valued at Rs 45.5 lakh. These belonged to Muhammad Yaseen Dar from Sholipora Budgam, linked to two cases under FIR Nos. 302/2020 and 134/2021.
Similarly, Police Station Chadoora seized properties from Muhammad Ayoub Beigh of Nowhar Chadoora, involved in case FIR No. 47/2024. The properties included land and a house in Nowgam, worth Rs 63.7 lakh.
In another case, Police Station Magam seized a scooter and a double-story house belonging to Irfan Ahmad Lone and Gh Mohd Lone from Badran Magam. These were linked to case FIR Nos. 120/2024 and 121(1) BNS, valued at Rs 18.84 lakh.
A police spokesperson said that taking properties gained from drug smuggling sends a strong message to those involved in illegal drugs. “Police are determined to break drug networks by targeting properties from drug money,” the statement said.
The police stressed their commitment to fighting drugs and asked the public to report any drug activities. They promised to protect informers’ identities and emphasized that public help is crucial for a drug-free society.
In a separate operation in Kupwara, police arrested a drug dealer and found contraband on him. Acting on a tip, police set up a checkpoint at Lassipora and stopped Rayees Ahmad Bhat from Kanthpora. They found about 35 grams of a charas-like substance on him. He was arrested, and a case was filed under FIR No. 61/2024.
The police urged citizens to report any drug-related activities, assuring strict action against offenders. “We reassure the community that police will act tough against criminals according to the law,” the statement added.
