Just hours after two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs – Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, sustained injuries amid the scuffle on the Parliament grounds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to both MPs to inquire about their well-being.
This was confirmed by Dr. Ajay Shukla at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, who informed reporters, “He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) called to check on the condition of both MPs.” “He spoke with them both, assuring them not to worry and that they would recover.
They appear to be doing better now, as their medical examinations are underway,” he stated. Sixty-nine-year-old Sarangi, a BJP representative from Balasore in Odisha, sustained injuries to the left side of his forehead. He was subsequently transported to an ambulance and taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for care.
Later, Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Pralhad Joshi visited Sarangi at the hospital to check on his condition.
News agency ANI reported Dr. Shukla at RML Hospital indicated that Mukesh Rajput had lost consciousness. He eventually regained his senses but was still feeling dizzy and anxious.
His blood pressure had also increased. Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday, stating that he was physically shoved by BJP MPs on the Parliament grounds, which caused him to lose his balance.
Kharge urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to conduct an investigation into the “shoving” by the BJP MPs, asserting it was an assault not only on him personally but also on the Leader of the Opposition and the Congress president.
“My letter to the Hon’ble Lok Sabha Speaker is a request to initiate an inquiry regarding the incident, which represents an assault not just on me, but on the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the Congress President,” he noted on X. CONGRESS MPs CLAIM RAUL GANDHI WAS ALSO INJURED
Several senior Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha also addressed Speaker Birla, claiming that Rahul Gandhi was “physically assaulted” and called for appropriate measures. “We are writing to express our significant concern regarding an incident that transpired on the Parliament premises today.
Members of the INDI Alliance were engaging in a peaceful protest and marching from the Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar statue to Makar Dwar.”
“However, when we attempted to enter Parliament through Makar Dwar, the protesting MPs were physically obstructed from gaining entry,” stated the letter signed by Congress MPs KC Venugopal, Kudukunil Suresh, Ravindra Chavan, Dean Kuriakose, and VK Sreekandan.
“We would also like to highlight that Shri Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, was physically assaulted by three MPs from the ruling party. This is a direct violation of the privileges granted to the Leader of the Opposition and encroaches upon the rights accorded to him in his official role as an MP,” it asserted.
“Their actions represented not only a blatant violation of Rahul Gandhi’s personal dignity but also contradict the democratic principles of our Parliament. We trust that you will handle this issue with the utmost seriousness and take suitable action,” the MPs expressed in their communication to Birla.
WHAT OCCURRED AT PARLIAMENT?
On Thursday, members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition INDIA bloc conducted separate protest marches concerning the Ambedkar issue, culminating in a confrontation at the Makar Dwar of the Parliament House, which resulted in scuffles that led to injuries for two BJP MPs.
They were taken to a hospital and claimed that both were pushed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The conflict erupted when INDIA bloc members insisted on entering Parliament through a space occupied by protesting BJP MPs, rather than utilizing the vacant area on one side of the Makar Dwar staircase designated for entry and exit.
RAHUL GANDHI’s ACCOUNT
Shortly after BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed he was injured following an altercation with Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition stated that he was simply trying to enter Parliament when the BJP MPs attempted to push him away.
In a media interaction, Rahul Gandhi maintained that they have the right to access Parliament.
“This could be seen on your camera. I was attempting to enter through the main entrance, but BJP MPs were trying to obstruct me and were being aggressive. That’s how this incident occurred,” Rahul Gandhi explained to reporters.
On the subject of Kharge’s potential injuries, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “Yes, that has taken place. However, we are not deterred by rough handling. This is the entrance, and we are entitled to enter. The BJP MPs were attempting to prevent us from doing so. The main issue is their attacks on the Constitution and their disrespect toward the legacy of Ambedkar ji.” While BJP MPs protested on Parliament grounds against the Congress party for allegedly “insulting” Babasaheb Ambedkar, INDIA bloc MPs called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in response to his comments regarding Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha experienced multiple adjournments on Wednesday, as the Congress and other Opposition members protested against Shah’s remarks about BR Ambedkar made during his critique of Congress in his speech in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
