Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. They will discuss important issues, including the quick return of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, according to official sources.
This will be Omar’s second meeting with the Home Minister since he became the Chief Minister of the Union Territory. Sources say that Omar received “positive assurances” in his first meeting and is hopeful that the Union Government will soon restore statehood.
Although the Union Government has promised to bring back statehood, it hasn’t given a specific timeline for when this will happen.
Besides statehood, Omar plans to talk about problems related to dual control in administration during his meeting with the Home Minister.
More than two months into his term, Jammu and Kashmir still lacks the Transaction of Business Rules (TBR). These rules are needed to clearly define the powers of the elected government over various departments and administrative matters.
Without these rules, there is tension between Omar Abdullah’s elected government and the administration led by the Lieutenant Governor.
